What is 316 stainless steel?
316 stainless steel or A1 as it is widely known is the second most common variant of stainless steel available. Its primary alloying constituents after iron, are chromium (between 16-18%), nickel (between 10-12%) and molybdenum (between 2-3%). The addition of molybdenum provides greater corrosion resistance which makes it ideal for use in corrosive environments such as coastlines, marine environments and when exposed to chemicals.
How ACS use it:
ACS uses 316 stainless steel for masonry support, wall ties and windposts when specified by our customer or recommended by our design department. ACS may recommend the use of 316 stainless when additional strength is required or when the project is near the coast or has exposure to chemicals such as factories and agricultural areas.
