How to replace wall ties

Buildings constructed before 1970 will probably have been constructed using mild steel wall ties. These are susceptible to corrosion and once degraded they can cause buildings and outer leave to collapse. The mild steel wall ties often swell due to delamination of the mild steel, this can cause cracking, mortar drop out and bowing of a wall.

ACS recommends having a professional inspect your wall for defective wall ties. They will be able to identify where the ties are located and then inspect these using a camera or by removing a small section of mortar around the tie. They will provide you with a full report and suggested remedial action if required.
