Joining ACS in 2024 as Business Development Director, Aarron has already made a strong impact. Here, he shares his ambitions for the new role – and why ACS is the perfect place for the next stage of his career.

“There are truly some of the best people in the industry working here”

Joining ACS was a natural step for me, I’ve always found the construction business an exciting place to be and really like the type of people the industry attracts.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked in several customer-focused roles, which has really sharpened my commercial awareness and helped me build a well-rounded skillset. It’s been a journey that’s brought everything together – from working with a company that designs the machines used to construct buildings, to now being part of a team that helps build the structures themselves. That full-circle experience has given me a solid understanding of the entire construction process, and I’m excited to bring that perspective to my work at ACS.

But construction wasn’t actually where I started out; I grew up in a military family, and my first proper job was in the hospitality division of the Ministry of Defence. That role really sparked my passion for building strong relationships with the people I work with – something that’s been a big part of my career ever since. It’s also why I feel such a connection to ACS, especially with our strong ties to the armed forces and our annual Steel Soldiers campaign.

A fortunate sidestep

I joined ACS in March 2024, having long admired the company from afar. What really drew me in was their commitment to professional development, particularly through the CPD programme, as well as the impressive level of innovation across the product range. It’s no surprise ACS has such a strong reputation in the market – the calibre of people here is second to none.

Soon after joining, it became clear just how fast the company was evolving. In the space of just a year, we achieved Planet Mark certification and were awarded Supply Chain Sustainability School Gold status – both clear indicators of our ongoing commitment to progress, improvement and innovation.

Personally, things moved quickly too. Starting out in Business Development I quickly moved into the dual role of Head of Technical and Head of Projects – a path I hadn’t initially planned, but one that turned out to be a hugely valuable step. It gave me a much broader understanding of the business, and I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some brilliant colleagues to streamline and reposition both departments to be the strongest they’ve ever been. Delivering the highest levels of service and operational excellence takes consistent resource and dedication, and the insight I’ve gained in these roles will be instrumental as I step into my new position as Sales Director.

A bright future

I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a talented team, including our Head of Technical Specification and the newly created role of Head of Business Development. I also work closely with our Strategic Design Director as we continue to modernise, optimise, and evolve our systems and offerings.

Our industry is evolving rapidly – and so are we. From leading the changes introduced through the Building Safety Act post-Grenfell – changes I fully support – to ACS’s ambitious investment in upskilling our workforce, we’re committed to progress at every level. Whether someone is based on the factory floor or in a technical or operational role, development opportunities are a key focus. With the industry-wide skills shortage, it’s more important than ever to prioritise apprenticeships, training, and long-term career development in this way.

We’re keen to expand on collaborations and partnerships too, with lots in the pipeline as we build on our relationships with our largest clients and the biggest names in the industry. We’re always working on new product lines and the evolution of existing products so there’s a lot to come and I’m delighted to be here for it.
